Yantic Falls

Today's visit was to Yantic Falls,

 also known as Indian Leap. 
It is one of many area parks related to natives. 
 
 The tale is of Narragansetts fleeing the Mohegans
that attempted to jump this chasm to escape.
It ended badly.
 
It is nice to be walking again.

    These pictures are the best yet in my opinion and worthy of being published, perhaps by a calendar company or the like. I really do like them.

Barn Island Wildlife Management Area

Today I ended the summer with a short visit to  Barn Island Wildlife Management Area . There is a boat launch ramp here, with a smaller canoe launch aside it. The 60 parking spaces , large enough for pickups with boat trailers, were filled this Labor Day  and cars were parked on the road back to the entrance! It would, however, be difficult to feel crowded on this 1013 acre (409 hectare) coastal preserve . I did find one friend though.

We met at the nearest restaurant,  a whimsical Columbian place with maduros,  before today's hike.  The juxtaposition  of housing, airplanes, wildlife, and city skyline make Belle Isle Marsh unique.

The Great Killingly Tomato Festival

Agricultural fairs have long stopped being what they should be. Families reuniting.  Fathers relaxing with their children while mothers rest without.  LOCAL performers and marching bands  surrounded by local merchants and entrepreneurs.  Ridiculous contests .   In an era where some agricultural fairs won't allow dogs on their grounds the Great Killingly Tomato Festival is a refreshing hint at the origins of the crowded overpriced carnivals that pretend to be local today.
