Autumn walks #2 & #3

 I joined the Last Green Valley Walktober events' 
 walk #55 Sunday. 
 The still Autumn air makes most reflect 
on the years passing before our eyes.
 I am still finding local paths.
 extends north into my hometown. 
 It is a cross town trip I've neglected to take far too long.
I'm glad I finally took the time.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a party announcing Duprey Real Estate 's decision to join the Home for Heroes franchise. It was well attended by local heroes and politicians. On the surface this might seem like just another business meeting. Another advertising gambit around the surging nationalism Americans have embraced since 9/11, the inspiration of this charter. However this franchise promises discounts on sales commissions as well as the services needed for purchasing a house to veterans, first responders, teachers, health care providers and others that qualify. Titles, mortgages, legal services, and even some construction products and services may be discounted. Paperwork is promised to be streamlined. I'm a skeptic, so I looked things up. Lows and highs.

Our guide showed us the hot and cold of Albuquerque. We started our sightseeing in Rinconada Canyon, part of the Petroglyph National Monument . A 2.5 mile trail doesn't sound like a lot until one is half way and the soft sand is burning your soles while the sun and wind whisk every bit of moisture away.  After this it was time for water and a nap. Upon waking we made our way to Sandia Crest . Elevation 10, 678 ft. Temperatures dipped and I grabbed my jacket. One is level with the clouds. Our guide warned us that rain would mean seeing only the tops of them. With wildfires burning in Santa Fe, we cheered when it briefly rained. It cleared before our arrival. Perhaps I should not mention how fun the drive up was. When we caught up to the sedan in front of us, we pulled aside to give ourselves room to play. It is high enough that breathing is labored.  Or was that the view?

Friday I confirmed my Veterans' tuition waiver. For you wartime vets that do not know, this program gives free tuition to all CT Public Colleges. I pay fees and books.  Click here for details I might even qualify for an additional stipend, under the VRAP program. Apparently it is an educational stipend for folks like me that have outlived the usefulness of their military training and need some knowledge to earn a living. When we start proper-sizing our military industries, this should become a very popular program.  Link to VRAP page. I also made my way to the unemployment office, where a nice lady told me to go home and call Monday while handing me papers. Just glancing at the papers, it appears there is also an on-line method of applying. This will wait until I hear about the VRAP and ensure there are no conflicts.
