A mere four hour drive is enough these days to cause rejoice when my destination appears through road weary eyes. Especially when that aim is as majestic as Spillian . After a brief tour we were shown our room . A few moments of peace were granted before the celebrations. We were allowed full access to the kitchen facilities so the visiting chef from Maine could continue our traditional lobster and cob feast. Our stomachs sated, we conversed to catch up and to reminisce. A short stroll to the meadow set the stage for family and friendships rekindled lasting to evenings end. I first viewed the middle of a blossoming tulip tree from the second story of a men's bunkhouse in a Shaker Village . The gorgeous flowers inspired my own planting over 20 years ago. I had read they were short lived at the time, but I did not expect it to die so suddenly, especially after last years amazing bloom. On the surface this might seem like just another business meeting. Another advertising gambit around the surging nationalism Americans have embraced since 9/11, the inspiration of this charter. However this franchise promises discounts on sales commissions as well as the services needed for purchasing a house to veterans, first responders, teachers, health care providers and others that qualify. Titles, mortgages, legal services, and even some construction products and services may be discounted. Paperwork is promised to be streamlined. I'm a skeptic, so I looked things up. Homes for Heroes is a profitable operation, as is Duprey Real Estate.
