Chase Reservoir and Watershed Conservation Area

We continued my therapy walks today
We actually drove through it before we could figure out where to park.
There is a small parking area one half mile into an unpaved road
that we ended up walking getting passed by a cement mixer.
Perhaps next time we'll walk the trail 
instead of the road through it.

Barn Island Wildlife Management Area

Today I ended the summer with a short visit to  Barn Island Wildlife Management Area . There is a boat launch ramp here, with a smaller canoe launch aside it. The 60 parking spaces , large enough for pickups with boat trailers, were filled this Labor Day  and cars were parked on the road back to the entrance! It would, however, be difficult to feel crowded on this 1013 acre (409 hectare) coastal preserve . I did find one friend though.

Belle Isle Marsh.

We met at the nearest restaurant,  a whimsical Columbian place with maduros,  before today's hike.  The juxtaposition  of housing, airplanes, wildlife, and city skyline make Belle Isle Marsh unique.

Lows and highs.

Our guide showed us the hot and cold of Albuquerque. We started our sightseeing in Rinconada Canyon, part of the Petroglyph National Monument . A 2.5 mile trail doesn't sound like a lot until one is half way and the soft sand is burning your soles while the sun and wind whisk every bit of moisture away.  After this it was time for water and a nap. Upon waking we made our way to Sandia Crest . Elevation 10, 678 ft. Temperatures dipped and I grabbed my jacket. One is level with the clouds. Our guide warned us that rain would mean seeing only the tops of them. With wildfires burning in Santa Fe, we cheered when it briefly rained. It cleared before our arrival. Perhaps I should not mention how fun the drive up was. When we caught up to the sedan in front of us, we pulled aside to give ourselves room to play. It is high enough that breathing is labored.  Or was that the view?
