United Nations World Water Day

We drove out to the cape today
for United Nations World Water Day.
I know you haven't heard of it,
but it is a thing.
Seashores are part of the Cape,
but it is so much more.
Rivers, estuaries, salt water marshes, and fresh water ponds
all flow toward the ocean here.
We gathered where water, earth and sky converge.

Blessings were performed by a Penobscot elder, songs were sung by native Mashpee Wampanoags.

Unexpectedly, we were invited to the tribes Meeting House.
It is the first church built on the Cape
and the oldest Native American Church.
17th and 18th century carvings are found
on the balcony handrail

and some of the preserved panels.
Chandeliers and panel quilts
also preserve the sanctity
and history
of a building brought up to modern regulations.
Few of the original beams needed replaced,
and modern pieces added for safety
were mixed with the old.
I cannot think of a more appropriate people or place
to celebrate and bless the waters of this world.
