More Skyline Drive

Image
I could try to spell out  why and what has taken  over a year  to finally produce   these images.  I would rather   let you enjoy them  without the gnarly explanation  of photo editing. The best illusionists do not explain their craft.

P&W Railroad Crossing.

Image
This is happening up the road.  Talking to one of the workers I learned that this crossing  is built on a huge ditch filled with gravel. Two infrared sensors are used to locate track position  and this machine plunges into the gravel, tamping it down while other components correct the tracks position.  Though computer controlled, it often needs correcting by the men tending the machine. With the track in the proper position  gravel is added, and spread like smooth like soft butter.   While I know it is not the purpose I am hoping   my house will shake a little less  when trains rumble through this crossing.

Still River Guitar

Image
I had a tour of luthier Richard Young's   Still River Guitars shop. Rich was trained by a Russian master craftsman and  specializes in creating  Hauser classical guitars. He manufactures and repairs stringed instruments, including banjos and mandolins. He is also a teaching luthier.   Passing his knowledge to others  while allowing individuality A student's design hand cut mother of pearl rosette. and creativity.  His shop is geared to hand work. Machines are used for cabinetry    and perhaps repairs. But guitar backs are ripped by hand saw from storied logs.  Each guitar is a novel of materials, memories, and individuality.  French polish is a time consuming and tranquil meditation. Book matching! Matched parts and designs are sublime, Headstock laminated to echo the back's markings.  as are the tools  and the artist that cut each individual chevron   !click this pic to see the deta
